Member of Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany (Deutscher Bundestag) and Member of Parliament of the Free State of Bavaria (Landtag des Freistaats Bayern) for more than two decades. Member of the Christian Social Union (CSU) since 1964. Chairwoman of the regional association of Christian–Democratic Students in Bavaria (1966–1967). Vice-Chairwoman of the Young Christian Democrats (1973–1977). Member of the executive committee (1973–2007) and board of the CSU (1987–2007). Chair of the Women’s Union in Bavaria (1981–1991). Member of the Bundestag 1979/80 and 1983–1994, spokesperson of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group for family policy, Chair of the CDU/CSU women parliamentary group and Chairwoman of the special committee for the protection of unborn life. Bavarian Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs (1994–1998). Member of Parliament of the Free State of Bavaria (2000–2013), Chairwoman of the Committee for Federal and European Affairs, Member of the Committee of Regions at the European Union level. Since 2002 member of the district council of Starnberg. On 12 May 2014 elected as Chairwoman of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
