Louis Janssens de Bisthoven
After spending one year in the Belgian army, Louis Janssens de Bisthoven went to the Catholic University of Louvain, where he obtained a bachelor degree in Political Sciences and a master degree in European Studies, with a special focus on the relations between European Union and Russia. His master thesis was about the diplomacy of Russia in the Syrian conflict. On this occasion, he received a grant from the InBev-Baillet Latour Chair to conduct interviews in Moscow, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the MGIMO University.
Louis has also worked as political advisor at the Belgian Embassy in Kiev during the summer of 2013. There, he has been tasked with the follow up of the internal political situation in Ukraine and of different aspects related to the relations of this country with the European Union and the Russian Federation. During the summer of 2014, he worked at the Belgian Embassy in Rome during Italy’s presidency of the Council of the EU.
Before joining the Martens Centre, Louis worked in Moscow for a Belgian company as Manager Sales & Marketing. His spheres of interest include the post-Soviet space and the Middle East. Louis speaks French, Dutch, English and Russian.
