The Centre for European Studies (CES) in cooperation with the Platform for A Sustainable Growth (PCS) organised “The Congress for Sustainable Growth” on 9 November 2013. The conference was the follow up of a publication and a public discussion based on the PCS’ Sustainable Growth Report, which was a two years bottom-up approach to the country’s main challenges, identifying policies and addressing measures to foster sustainable growth in Portugal. This process of wide national consultation throughout the country culminated with the Congress for Sustainable Growth, where the Deal for Sustainable Growth, a summarized and target review of the Report was presented. The full-day Congress was divided into several thematic roundtable discussions featuring a wide range of speakers from both the public and private sectors, each addressing a different topic. Approximately 370 people attended the event and the audience included a full spectrum of policy and opinion leaders from government, academia, public organizations, private sector, NGOs, think tanks political parties as well as most of PCS’s members, and 16 members of the PCS’s board. The event also had wide media coverage in many of Portugal’s main newspapers and TV broadcast.
